Anna Giulia specializes in the study of ancient Egyptian woodcraft and wooden artifacts. For her Ph.D, she defined for the first time the woodworking system of Deir el-Medina through an interdisciplinary approach that combined textual and iconographic sources with prosopographical studies and in-depth analysis of the material culture. She also produced a comprehensive catalogue of the collection of wooden objects from Deir el-Medina in the Museo Egizio of Turin. Within the framework of the IFAO mission to Deir el-Medina, Anna Giulia, as a member of the Medjehu Project, conducts a comprehensive study of different categories of wooden artefacts dated to the New Kingdom. In the great quantity of these objects, she began to inventory and document shabti boxes, some types of furniture, cosmetic objects and statuettes. For the forthcoming publication of the catalogue of shabti boxes and cosmetic objects from Deir el-Medina, Anna Giulia is carrying out a complete study of these categories, with typological and stylistic studies, as well as an examination of construction and decoration techniques, with the aim of providing new data on
local craftsmanship and, where possible, recontextualising the objects.
